Matadors Rebuff Ghosts, 4-3
|
The Hartford Matadors picked up a win at Ballpark of Tacoma, taking down the Laredo Ghosts, 4-3. Starting pitcher Alberto Renteria was a big reason why. The winning pitcher was Renteria, now 10-6. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. Everton Jackson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 4th save.
Steve Doyle had a big solo home run for the Matadors in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Hartford leading 3-0 and the bases empty, he got a curveball from 27-year old left-handed pitcher Adam Rosales and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Matadors ahead, 4-0.
"Alberto was able to execute his pitches," said Hartford manager Jesse Heugly. "Simple as that."
The 4th-place Matadors improved to 51-44.
