Hartford got a terrific game from catcher Eric Clayton. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Baxter Springs, 7-3. Clayton was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Baxter Springs is now 54-42, Hartford 54-42.

The Matadors had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Marshals going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old catcher Jim Dear came to the plate. Dear hit a 2-run home run on a 1-2 changeup from Hartford hurler Joe Stanley. It was Dear's 2nd home run of the year.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Dear.
