Matadors Sneak Past Jesters, 5-4
|
The Hartford Matadors beat the Joilet Jesters, 5-4, in 10 innings. Hartford pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Fernando Garcia led the way. Hartford reliever Ken Yates was the winner. His record is now 1-4. Andy Shoemaker took the loss. Everton Jackson earned his 3rd save in 6 chances.
Prince Sunderland drove in one run for Hartford. With one out and the game tied in the top of the tenth inning, Sunderland, who is tied for 10th in the SC in triples with 3, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Joilet hurler Andy Shoemaker, he grounded out, driving in 1 run to give the Matadors a 5-4 lead.
Hartford manager Jesse Heugly called it "a darn good win."
With the victory, the Matadors upped their record to 46-41.
