Chesapeake Blanked by Izquierdo
|
The Portland Mad Ants shut out the Chesapeake Tailgators, 8-0, behind the strong pitching of Rodrigo Izquierdo. Izquierdo surrendered only 2 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 6.
Following the last out, Izquierdo appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Chesapeake manager Dave York, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Izquierdo's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Tailgators skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Mad Ants press conference, Izquierdo confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Izquierdo said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Portland manager Efren Nieman added.
So far this season, Izquierdo has a record of 12-1 with 101 strikeouts and 28 walks in 128 innings and a 1.90 ERA.
