Canadiens 8-7 Victors Over Lubbock
|
The Montreal Canadiens withstood an impressive performance by Lubbock left fielder Brian Phillips to defeat the Stampede, 8-7, at Oilers Ballpark. Phillips was 2-4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The victory makes Montreal 26-61.
An inflection point occurred with one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Canadiens first baseman Jim Wilkes hit a fastball from Gerardo Cruz for a 2-run single. Just like that, Montreal was up, 6-5.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Wilkes told a Montreal Citizen reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
