Tailgators Fall Short at Laredo, 8-7
The Laredo Ghosts turned back the Chesapeake Tailgators, 8-7, at Ghosts Ballpark. Tony Martinez, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Adam Appelbaum, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-6. He allowed 3 runs on 2 hits in 1 innings. Laredo currently is in last place in the Stars Conference West Division at 36-48.

When he batted in the bottom of the ninth, Fred Pachner had a golden opportunity to change the game's outcome. Chesapeake pitcher Bobby Dwyer was determined not to let him. But with one out, Pachner hit a sacrifice fly -- and the Ghosts had a suspense-filled triumph.

"We couldn't have scripted it any better," Pachner said in his postgame press conference.
