Flowers Helps Hartford Cruise to 11-3 Win
|
The Hartford Matadors beat the Montreal Canadiens, 11-3, at Ballpark of Tacoma. Chris Flowers, who is tied for 9th in the SC in total bases with 127, starred for Hartford. He was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. Fernando Garcia, the winning pitcher, is now 6-4. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 0. Michael Hatten picked up the save, his 1st.
With Hartford leading 7-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Flowers came up to bat against Montreal pitcher Jacob Hodge. Flowers hit a slider to right for a grand slam home run. His 10th home run of the season put the Matadors on top, 11-3.
"It was a tough day, no getting around it," said losing manager .
With the win, the Matadors improved to 42-40.
