Hartford and Portland got after it at Mad Ants Ballpark.

The Hartford Matadors stymied the Portland Mad Ants, 5-2, at Mad Ants Ballpark. Mark Conway had a good day at the plate. He was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for Hartford. The winner was Andrew Severson, who threw 90 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits. Blake Bryant got the save, the 22nd for him this season.

Hartford grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Conway hit a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Matadors out in front, 5-2.

"This is a very good team," said Conway. "We have the chance to do something special."

At 46-33, the Matadors find themselves in first place in the Stars Conference West Division.
