The Lubbock Stampede got a sterling performance from pitcher Mike Maschke, but the Hartford Matadors still prevailed, 6-5. Maschke threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs. Jesus Fernandez earned the save for Hartford, his 18th. Hartford is now 48-32, while Lubbock is 36-44.
Hartford used a clutch hit from Jeff Duenas to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Matadors ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Duenas said.
