The Hartford Matadors rode a solid performance from 24-year-old starting pitcher Nate Benson to a win, beating the Laredo Ghosts, 5-2, at Ghosts Ballpark. Benson, now 8-4, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 4, and allowing 2 runs. Jeremy Carter nailed down his 4th save.

Hartford used a clutch hit from Taylor McLean to get the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Matadors ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Hartford manager Jesse Heugly.

With the win over Laredo, the Matadors improved to 37-40.
