Matadors Rack Up 4-1 Win Versus Baxter Springs
|
The Hartford Matadors rode a solid performance from 26-year-old starting pitcher Fernando Garcia to a win, beating the Baxter Springs Marshals, 4-1, at Marshals Ballpark. Garcia, now 5-4, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Everton Jackson locked down his 2nd save.
Tied up with the Marshals in the top of the fourth inning, the Matadors got a boost from third baseman Steve Doyle. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Doyle saw a 1-0 sinker from Jared Holder and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Hartford on top, 1-0.
Garcia called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
The 4th-place Matadors go to 40-37.
