The Laredo Ghosts beat the El Paso Chupacabras, 6-5, at Chupacabras Stadium. The Ghosts got a fine performance from shortstop Mike Nelson, who was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Frank Stroud got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. Nick Thompson collected his 11th save.

With Laredo trailing 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Nelson hit a fastball from Bill Flowers for a grand slam home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Ghosts ahead, 5-2.

"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Nelson.

Laredo now sits at 28-50, while El Paso falls to 38-40.
