Marshals Shut Out Canadiens, 5-0
|
The Baxter Springs Marshals downed the Montreal Canadiens, 5-0, at Marshals Ballpark. Stellar pitching by Luis Cuadra had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who leads the SC with a 2.17 ERA, handcuffed his opponent all game. In 6.1 innings, Cuadra surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 3. He allowed no runs. Montreal, at 19-59, has lost 5 straight.
Andy O'Brien was 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Baxter Springs. The 23-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a 2-run single off Xavier Darden. It was his 62nd hit of the season.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Cuadra. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
