Boosted by the 2-hit performance of Paul Simister, who is tied for 7th in the SC with a .483 slugging percentage, the Hartford Matadors defeated the Chesapeake Tailgators, 5-2. Alberto Renteria picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-5. He struck out 4 in 6.1 innings. Ken Yates was credited with the save for Hartford, his 18th of the season.

In the first inning, Simister had a 2-run home run for Hartford. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Matadors on top, 2-0.

Said losing manager Dave York: "We just didn't get it done tonight."

The Matadors saw their win-loss record go to 34-36. At the same time, the Tailgators fell to 25-45.
