Matadors Score Late to Nip Stampede, 4-3
|
The Hartford Matadors had to overcome a fine effort from Lubbock pitcher Gary Day to win, 4-3, at Ballpark of Tacoma. Day went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. The save went to Ken Yates, number 17 for him. Hartford now sits at 32-34, while Lubbock falls to 42-24.
Hartford took a 4-3 lead on Steve Doyle's 10th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Doyle hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Lubbock pitcher Nick Wolfe visibly frustrated.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Doyle told the Hartford News.
