Chesapeake turned a good effort from starting pitcher Nick Douglass into a win over the Hartford Matadors at Tailgators Ballpark. The final score was 3-1 in 10 innings. Eric Sawyer earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 2-6. Chesapeake, at 27-38, holds down 4th place in the Stars Conference East Division.

Chesapeake got a knockout punch from Jon Mena. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Chesapeake skipper Dave York.
