Hartford got a first-rate effort from pitcher Alberto Renteria, who frustrated El Paso hitters en route to a 3-1 Matadors triumph at Ballpark of Tacoma. Renteria, now 5-3, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 5, and allowing 1 run. The save was credited to Everton Jackson, his 20th.

Hartford first baseman Craig Kelley contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 26th hit of the season and put the Matadors ahead, 1-0.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Hartford manager Jesse Heugly.
