The Mad Ants grabbed a win, 6-4, at Ballpark of Tacoma, overcoming a fine effort from Hartford pitcher Guillermo Marquez. Marquez went 5 innings and allowed 1 run. Rich Wilkinson locked down his 12th save. Portland has now won 3 in a row.

An inflection point occurred with one out in the top of the eighth. That's when Mad Ants center fielder Pat Kirchner hit a splitter from Chris Runte for a 2-run single. Just like that, Portland was up, 5-4.

"We ground out the win," said Kirchner. "That's all that matters."
