Tim Covert, who is tied for 5th in the SC in strikeouts with 70, imposed his will on the Tailgators from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the right-hander spearheaded the 5-0 Lubbock triumph. Miguel Aguirre earned the save for Lubbock. The third-place Stampede now sit at 29-25.

Eric Barrett helped out the Lubbock cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the right fielder drew 2 walks.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Barrett.
