Johnson Helps Tailgators Defeat Matadors, 8-1
Behind a solid performance from left fielder Mike Johnson, the Chesapeake Tailgators defeated the Hartford Matadors, 8-1. Johnson went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Tailgators. Alex Martinez, the winner, improved to 5-2. He held the Matadors to 1 run on 4 hits over 7.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The 5th-place Tailgators bumped their record to 24-27.

The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth when Johnson hit a 2-run single. It thrust the Tailgators into the lead, 3-1.

"We took it on the chin tonight," said losing manager Jesse Heugly.
