Matadors Squeeze By Portland, 4-3
|
Hartford Matadors starter Paul Birchfield pitched a strong game against the Portland Mad Ants at Ballpark of Tacoma, leading the Matadors to victory, 4-3. Hartford pitcher Everton Jackson earned the win, hiking his record to 2-0. John Sherline suffered the loss. With the win over Portland, the Matadors improved to 29-18.
Tony Perez was the walk-off hero for Hartford. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Matadors first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Portland manager Will Berman.
