Mad Ants Come Up Short at Hartford, 6-5
The Hartford Matadors overcame a pretty good performance by Portland shortstop Josh Kelly, beating the Mad Ants, 6-5, at Ballpark of Tacoma. Kelly went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Hartford reliever John Bickel picked up the win to move to 3-0. Moises Gonzalez suffered the loss. Hartford is now 29-15, 2 games up in the Stars Conference West Division.

Had Orlando Contreras not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Contreras hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Matadors.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Portland manager Will Berman. "But we decided not to take it."
