The Portland Mad Ants overcame a pretty good performance by Quebec designated hitter Juan Ortega, beating the Aces, 4-3, at Mad Ants Ballpark. Ortega went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs. Rodrigo Izquierdo picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Greg Mars suffered the loss. Pete Mead earned the save for Portland, his 8th.

Jon Fritz broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fourth with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It put the Mad Ants in front, 2-1. For the game, Fritz was 1 for 2 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Fritz said.

Portland is now 17-23.
