Stampede Defeat Tailgators, 8-1
|
The Lubbock Stampede locked up a win at Tailgators Ballpark, knocking off the Chesapeake Tailgators, 8-1. On the mound for Lubbock was right-hander Gary Day. He played a major role in the triumph. The winning pitcher was Day, now 2-2. He tossed 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. The Stampede saw their win-loss record go to 23-18. At the same time, the Tailgators fell to 11-30.
Lubbock used the hitting of Ian Cason to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Stampede on top, 2-0. For the game, Cason had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I'm happy we won," said Day. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
