Montreal Absorbs 5-1 Loss to Montreal
|
The Montreal Canadiens stopped the Montreal Royals, 5-1, behind an impressive performance from Alex Infante. The 24-year old shortstop made life miserable for Montreal pitching. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Jay Gerbitz snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit over 2.2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. Montreal, with the win, is 11-29.
Jayden Brown had a big solo home run for the Canadiens in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Montreal leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a splitter from 19-year old right-handed pitcher Jim Murphy and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Canadiens on top, 2-0.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Brown told the Montreal Today. "You win just by scoring more runs."
