Perez belts 2 home runs to Power Matadors Offense
A 8-RBI performance from the 24-year old first baseman Tony Perez helped the Hartford Matadors beat the Montreal Canadiens, 19-15. Hartford reliever Dusty Thomas picked up the win, raising his record to 2-0. Greg Brand was tagged with the loss. John Schwartz got credit for the save for Hartford. It was his 1st of the year.

Had Paul Simister not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Simister hit a 2-run single. That made the score 17-15, in favor of the Matadors.

Matadors manager Jesse Heugly wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."

The last-place Matadors have won 6 in a row.
