Ghosts Lose By a Run at Portland
|
Portland pitcher Andy Baker had a large part in his team subduing the Laredo Ghosts, 3-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The winning pitcher was Baker, now 4-3. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Portland has run its win streak to 4 consecutive.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Mad Ants had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when left fielder Eric Hayes hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Andy Firkins and made the score 3-0, Mad Ants. Hayes went 1 for 4.
"Andy just settled in and did what he does," said Portland manager Efren Nieman.
