The skies opened up and the rain fell at Ballpark of Tacoma.

Hartford starter Andrew Severson put the Glendale offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his fastball in leading the Matadors to a 5-0 win. Severson picked up the win for Hartford, going 5.2 innings. He gave up no runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 1-2.

Jim Mendoza had a big 2-run double for the Matadors in the bottom of the first inning. With Hartford leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a changeup from top prospect Josh Hamilton and swatted a double to right. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Matadors ahead, 3-0.

"We take it day by day here," said Severson, "and today was a good one for us."

The win has Hartford at 15-10.
