Tailgators Lose at Home, 5-4
|
Thanks in large part to designated hitter Jason Paulsen, the Portland Mad Ants beat the Chesapeake Tailgators, 5-4. Paulsen went 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Josh Krueger. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. The defeat makes the Tailgators 7-14.
Portland used the timely hitting of Travis Starkey to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mad Ants on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"The other side took advantage in some key situations," said Chesapeake manager Dave York.
