Almost There: Ft. Wayne On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 14-4 Win
At an age when many of his peers are still toiling in the minor leagues, Chris Benedict was on the biggest stage of all.

The 21-year-old rookie right fielder was terrific at Mapleton Yards with a stirring hitting performance. Benedict was 4-6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 in a fireworks-filled, 14-4 Ft. Wayne Earthquakes win over the Moncton Mounties. The win gives the Earthquakes a 3-1 lead in the best-of-7 World Series.

A key moment came with two out in the top of the fifth. That's when Benedict hit a fastball from Alfredo Ayala for a 3-run home run, putting Ft. Wayne up, 11-2.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Benedict said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Mapleton Yards in Moncton.
