World Series Game 1 Victory for Bruin and Ft. Wayne
The Ft. Wayne Earthquakes started the World Series in style, downing the visiting Moncton Mounties at Earthquakes Stadium by a score of 6-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Earthquakes right-hander Shalom Bruin threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball.

In the bottom of the second, Ft. Wayne catcher Curt Koerner had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and one out, Koerner stroked a 2-run home run to center. It made the score 2-0, Ft. Wayne. For the game, he went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Koerner told the Ft. Wayne Observer. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Earthquakes Stadium in Ft. Wayne.
