Hickory Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
The Hickory Crawdads got a strong performance from pitcher Ryan Heyer, who stymied the Palm Springs offense en route to a 2-1 win in Game 2 of the League Championship Series. The Heat could never get a bead on the right-handed Heyer, who threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The Crawdads now hold a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 series.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Lance Parrent came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Palm Springs pitcher Eric Sawyer, he hit a 0-1 forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hickory on top, 2-1.
"We were in it," said Palm Springs manager Rogelio Sanchez. "We just didn't score enough runs."
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Crawdad Park in Hickory.
