Crawdads Edge Heat, 3-2, to Open CS
|
The Hickory Crawdads faced a challenging opponent in Palm Springs Heat left-hander Victor Luna, but did just enough to squeak out a 3-2 win in Game 1 of the League Championship Series. Hickory now leads 1-0 in the best-of-7 series. The Crawdads won despite the Heat getting an excellent start from starter Luna, who allowed 2 runs and scattered 4 hits over 6.2 innings.
Ty Beckford had a direct impact on the outcome. Beckford contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Hickory up, 3-2.
"I believe in our guys," said Hickory skipper Ray Sanchez. "I like the energy they're playing with."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Heat Ballpark in Palm Springs.
