Mexico City Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
Their bats were silent and Mexico City had a rookie on the mound. No problem.
On a day when the Aztecs struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 22-year-old starter Mike McManigle. The right-hander quieted the Dollywood Partons at Dolly Parton Ballpark to help Mexico City take the 2-1 decision and seize a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
Jamie Zepeda had a direct impact on the outcome. Zepeda contributed a run-scoring triple in the top of the fifth inning to put Mexico City up, 2-1.
McManigle attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Tony Gwynn Stadium in Mexico City.
