Critical Game 5 Goes to Host Blue Jays, 4-3
|
Game 5 was big. So was Andy Devane.
In leading St. Catharines to a crucial 4-3 victory over the Glace Bay Miners at Engineers Ballpark, the St. Catharines starter rose to the occasion, tossing 8 good innings. Devane threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball as the Blue Jays defended their home field to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
St. Catharines got a clutch hit from John Hearne. The pinch hitter launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a kill shot.
"This place went bonkers at the end," Devane said.
The next game is set to be played for Monday, September 28th , 2026 at Miners Memorial Park in Glace Bay.
