Almost There: Corpus Christi On Cusp of CS Triumph After 7-3 Win
The Corpus Christi Mermen moved to within one game of the World Series, downing the visiting Winchester Mountaineers at Mermen Field by a score of 7-3. Mermen right-hander Nate Holyfield had a strong outing in which he threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball. The win gives the Mermen a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

In the bottom of the fourth, Corpus Christi shortstop Gary Draeger had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and no one out, Draeger stroked a 2-run home run to center. It made the score 4-2, Corpus Christi. For the game, he went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"You need to show up when your number's called," said Draeger.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Mermen Field in Corpus Christi.
