Hartford Matadors starter Paul Birchfield pitched a good game to help his team take down the Nashville Lasers, 2-1. Birchfield, now 2-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Everton Jackson zipped up his 5th save.

Willie West had a critical at-bat with one out in the bottom of the sixth for Hartford. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Hartford in front, 2-0.

"Paul did a really nice job of taking the ball and giving us a chance to win the game," said Hartford manager Jesse Heugly.

Now 5-7, the Lasers have not played well this season.
