The Lubbock Stampede picked up a win at Reagor Dykes Stadium, knocking off the Baxter Springs Marshals, 3-1. On the mound for Lubbock was right-hander Tim Covert. He played a key role in the triumph. The winner was Covert. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was Ricardo Quiroz. Mike Braasch wrapped it up, recording his 4th save.
Joe Ortiz took Baxter Springs hurler Ricardo Quiroz deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 2-run home run put the Stampede on top, 3-1. In all, Ortiz had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Covert. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
The defeat makes Baxter Springs 4-4.
