The Montreal Royals downed the Nashville Lasers, 3-0, at Turtles Ballpark. Stellar pitching by Tom Rise had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Rise, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up no walks. Jose Perez earned the save, his 1st.

Cody Yeager went 2 for 3 with 2 singles against the Lasers. With the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, he hit a sacrifice fly that put Montreal in front, 1-0.

"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Yeager.

The win gives Montreal a record of 2-2.
