Fans of the Hartford Matadors who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Hartford win over the visiting Portland Mad Ants, 6-1. Nate Benson started for the home team against Chris Simon. Nate Benson earned accolades for his performance.

The Matadors got a big hit from shortstop Dave Aschenbrener. Facing Portland pitcher Chris Simon in the bottom of the fifth, Aschenbrener pounded a run-scoring triple to right. His 1st triple of the season put the Matadors ahead, 2-0.

"We've got a great group of guys," Aschenbrener said, "and we're having fun right now."
