The first-place Boston Whistlers took on the Chicago Gangsters in front of a spirited crowd.

The Boston Whistlers defeated the Chicago Gangsters, 8-4. Center Fielder Oliver Damon deserved a large share of the credit. Damon went 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 for the Whistlers. The winning pitcher was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Josh Cowels. He tossed 107 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 11 hits. Mark Dudley closed the door for Boston, picking up his 23rd save of the year.

Jeff Beeson was 1-4 with a walk, while scoring 2 runs for Boston. The fan favorite had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring walk off Josh Wilkes. It was his 28th walk of the season.

Said Boston manager Ben Foster: "Our approach was outstanding all night long."
