Fire Squeeze By Chicago, 10-9
|
The San Francisco Fire beat the Chicago Gangsters, 10-9, at The Hideout. The win was due in part to third baseman Bobby Castilla, who was 2-4 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Mike Deadrick, now 1-3, was credited with the win in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Their 52-53 record puts the Fire last in the National Conference West Division.
San Francisco needed the clutch hitting of Jonathan Cabrera to notch the win. The shortstop hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Fire on top, 7-5. For the game, Cabrera had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Castilla, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
