Garza, Miners Sink Jet Hawks Again in Game 2
|
Riding the 5-hit performance of left fielder Jose Garza, the Glace Bay Miners got a road win against the Grand Rapids Jet Hawks, 9-3, in Game 2 of the Division Series. Garza was 5 for 5 with a home run, a triple, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 4 runs and drove in 2 for the Miners, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.
With no one out in the bottom of the seventh, Joe Gilbreath had a chance to do some damage. Grand Rapids was trailing 7-0, but had the bases loaded. Gilbreath came to the plate against Will Gardner, and hit a sacrifice fly. But it was not enough to complete a Grand Rapids comeback.
Game 3 is scheduled for Monday at Miners Memorial Park in Glace Bay.
