The Corpus Christi Mermen did just enough to sneak past the Boise Dread Kings, 7-6, at Mermen Field. Corpus Christi center fielder Steve Nebeker, in particular, had a standout performance. Corpus Christi reliever Malachi Morrison got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jamie Licht was tagged with the loss. Josh Maughan collected save number 31.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Gary Draeger came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Boise pitcher Jamie Licht, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Corpus Christi on top, 7-6.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Corpus Christi manager Arturo Colon.
