Virginia Takes Sweet 16 in Deciding Game
It went the distance, but the Virginia Cavaliers finally disposed of the Illinois Fighting Illini 9-2 in the series clincher at Illinois Field.

Winning the finale gave the Cavaliers the series, 2-1. They will now advance to the Elite 8.

The Most Valuable Player Award went to Virginia catcher Dick McGlynn. He batted .462 in the series, collecting 3 RBIs and scoring 3 runs.

"Dick deserves it," said Cavaliers manager Collin Romero. "He was the glue that held our club together."

The Virginia Cavaliers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Purdue Boilermakers - Notre Dame Fighting Irish series. That series is tied at 1 game each. The Elite 8 schedule will be announced after the Sweet 16 finishes.
