Austin Compton Named Premier SL1 Player
Monday, June 10th , 2013
At the age of 19, Austin Compton of the Central Arizona College Vaqueros could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2013 was good enough to win the shortstop the Conference 1 Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .446 batting average this year, as well as a .563 on-base percentage. He played 48 games and racked up 86 hits, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 37 home runs, 91 RBIs and 72 runs scored.
He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 24. Nick Pratt of the Indian Hills Community College Warriors finished second in voting with 8 first place votes, while Matt Lawson of the Central Arizona College Vaqueros finished third.
