ABA Junior College Names Top Player

Jason Perrigin of the Cowley County Community College Tigers proved that you can step out of the shadows and onto the stage if you've got the talent and the drive to hone your skills. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the ABA Junior College Most Valuable Player Award.

Perrigin hit for a .396 average while collecting 86 hits, 22 doubles, 2 triples, 15 home runs, 50 RBIs and scoring 59 times.

He received 3 first place votes out of a possible 6. Bob de Leon of the Central Arizona College Vaqueros finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Kyle Nash of the Cowley County Community College Tigers finished third.

Santa Fe College Star Rehm Cops Pitcher of the Year Award

It was a glorious year for Bob Rehm of the Santa Fe College Saints.

He finished the season with 3 victories and only 1 loss, with an impressive 2.57 ERA. The talented Saints pitcher started 11 games and struck out 36 batters in 56 innings and won the ABA Junior College Pitcher of the Year Award.

"It means a lot," Rehm said. "I hadn't really had a chance to sit down and think about it yet. It feels good right now. I can't really put it into words, but I'm sure later on tonight when I have a chance to sit down with my family and think about it, I'll have some words for it. But right now, I'm just happy that it happened this year."

He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Nick Slover of the Johnson County Community College Cavaliers finished second in voting, while Juan Portillo of the Central Arizona College Vaqueros finished third.
