Gonzalez Selected SL2's Best Player
Saturday, June 9th , 2012
He may have less experience than most of his ABA Junior College peers, but that didn't slow Juan Gonzalez down at all in 2012.
At the age of 19, the Navarro College center fielder has been named the winner of the Conference 2 Most Valuable Player Award.
He had a .440 batting average and a .492 on-base percentage this year. In 48 games he piled up 95 hits, 17 doubles, no triples, 20 home runs, 69 RBIs and 55 runs scored.
"I'm blown away by the season I was able to put together," he said. "I'm looking forward to trying to do it all again next year."
He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Ryan Griffitt of the Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers finished second in voting, while Paul Pittman of the Navarro College Bulldogs finished third.
