Superb Year for Melo, Wins Most Valuable Player Award
Wednesday, October 23rd , 2024
At the age of 21, Alex Melo of the Buffalo Bellflowers could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 2024 was good enough to win the third baseman the Northern Conference Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .420 batting average this year, as well as a .482 on-base percentage. He played 134 games and racked up 240 hits, 40 doubles, 2 triples, 47 home runs, 155 RBIs and 139 runs scored.
He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Brian Evans of the Moncton Mounties finished second in voting, while Ryan Claydon of the Borrego Springs Rams finished third.
