Commodores Nevarez Smacks 5 Hits
Monday, April 3rd , 2023
David Nevarez put on a hitting clinic as the Vanderbilt Commodores dumped the Kentucky Wildcats, 8-5, at Charles Hawkins Field.
The Vanderbilt second baseman made Kentucky defenders earn their pay, lashing Kentucky pitching for 5 hits in 7 at-bats in the game. He told BNN reporters after the game that his strategy was "just hit it where they pitched it."
"Too often I try too hard to pull the ball," Nevarez said in his postgame press conference. "Today, I just went with the pitch."
David Nevarez singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Chris Mullins in the 8th, flied out in the 10th and hit a three-run home run off Mike DeWitt in the 12th.
To date Nevarez has chalked up a .346 average with 5 home runs, driven in 21 runs and scored 16 times.
