Tom Haas is redefining himself as a pitcher with a higher focus on velocity
Tuesday, March 10th , 2026
This offseason, Tom Haas made a dramatic leap in his pitching velocity, a change that has many excited about his potential for a breakout year. After focusing on strength, mechanics, and explosiveness, Haas added significant speed to his fastball and off-speed pitches, with results that have turned heads coming into spring training.
Tom Haas worked closely with the Boston College Eagles strength and conditioning staff, following a rigorous training program designed to maximize his power. By emphasizing lower-body strength, rotational power, and explosive movement, Tom Haas was able to generate more velocity without losing command or control. The work paid off and he consistently sits several miles per hour faster than last season. This bump in speed should also help his secondary pitches as well, preventing hitters from sitting on his offspeed pitches.
“It's been a huge focus for me this offseason,” Tom Haas said. “I’ve been working on generating more power from the ground up, and I’ve been able to push my velocity to a level I didn’t think was possible. It’s been exciting to see the progress.” With his newfound velocity, Tom Haas is poised for a much larger role in the coming season, and his increased speed has made him one of the most exciting arms to watch this season.
